Aish Minnesota

A JEWISH EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE FOR MINNESOTA : The name Aish HaTorah, literally “Fire of Torah,” was inspired by the talmudic story of Rebbe Akiva, a 40-year-old shepherd who could not even read the Aleph-Bet. One day, he came across a stone that had been holed out by a constant drip of water. He concluded: If something as soft as water could carve a hole in solid rock, then how much more so can Torah -- which is fire -- make an indelible impression on my heart. Rebbe Akiva committed himself to study Torah, and went on to become the greatest sage of his generation, with 24,000 students learning under him at one time.

As Elie Weisel said: “Aish HaTorah means to me the passion of teaching, the passion of learning. The study of Torah, the source of Jewish values, is the way to Jewish survival.”

In the words of Rabbi Noach Weinberg, founder of Aish International:

“Tie every Jew to a pride in his heritage, to a confidence in our future, and an appreciation of how precious his involvement with the Jewish people can be for himself, his children, grandchildren, and all of humanity.”

Information about Aish Minnesota can be found HERE.

Unpacking on the Prairie

The Society’s most ambitious undertaking in the 1990’s was an exhibit in partnership with the Minnesota Historical Society focused on Jewish women in the Upper Midwest. Unpacking on the Prairie opened 1996 at the Minnesota History Center to great acclaim. Lectures, a Jewish women’s art exhibit and other programs throughout the year rounded out the experience. A traveling version of the main exhibit toured for seven years and the award-winning Web exhibit –www.jewishwomenexhibit.com – remains an important resource today. Unpacking on the Prairie co-chairs were Bobby Cohen and Shirley Rosenblum.

MJTC ANNOUNCES 2007-2008 SEASON
13th Professional Season Featuring Four Regional Premieres

Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company (MJTC) is pleased to announce its third and forth productions for the 2007-2008 season. The MJTC shows will be presented at MJTC’s theater home, Hillcrest Center, 1978 Ford Parkway, St. Paul, with the exception of Parade.

The Triangle Factory Fire Project
by Christopher Piehler in collaboration
with Scott Allen Evans
Directed by Carolyn Levy
May 3 - 25, 2008

Regional Premiere

The year was 1911, the date March 25th, the time 4:45pm. As the workers of the Triangle Waist Factory hear the bell signaling the end of the workday, there is a shout of "FIRE!" It was the beginning of a blaze that in 30 minutes would kill 146 people. Hear the play by play of events, witness the murder trial that leaves the public hungry for vengeance, and understand the social and political changes that took place as a result of this horrific tragedy.

“A searing play which reminds us why theatre exists.”
- The New York Post

Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company is dedicated to presenting professional productions rooted in the Jewish experience but illuminating the common humanity among us all. Please visit the website at www.mnjewishtheatre.org for more information about MJTC.
